This site is for everyone that participates in the Ogemaw Area Parkinson’s Support Group or for anyone that would like to participate with us. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 12:30 PM in the Ogemaw County Senior Citizen’s Center on M-33 outside of West Branch. Our group meets to promote a secure and supportive format in which Parkinson’s or Parkinson’s-Type Disease issues, experiences, and concerns can be shared. Occasionally a speaker or presentation will be part of the day’s activities.
This site is available to announce coming events. It is also here to provide a forum where questions can be asked and concerns can be shared. This dialog will be kept in a respectful nature and no rude or disparaging remarks will be tolerated. Vulgar and abusive language will be removed and the writer may be banned.
Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinson’s Type Diseases permanently change the lives of their victims and of those that provide care to them. These health issues and their symptoms (both motor and non-motor) can be treated but at this time there is no permanent cure. Many are working to find that cure. The cause is often unknown. It may be more practical to concentrate on dealing with the issues that PD patients face each and every day. As the disease progresses and changes, those issues and their treatments will also adjust and change. For you, this is the most IMPORTANT ELEMENT, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Many of us face the same challenges. We are here to help and support in any way that we can. We are not doctors or medical personnel (unless that is specified). We are ordinary folks that are here to share, to listen, and to support you. We do that for each other. We want to do it with you and for you. (For me personally, if I can see you smile then you have made my day!) Life does not end with the diagnosis of Parkinson’s. It changes but it goes on. We believe that together we can find a new strength and a more positive outlook for each day. Dennis
